Concluding the first two months of 2021, there is notable growth (+140%) in traditional exports (Fish Meal and Oil), due to the good anchovy fishing seasons on the Peruvian coast, despite the production limitations caused by the pandemic, informs PROMPERU through its Commercial Office for the Benelux & Scandinavia.
The countries of this region are an important destination for traditional exports. For example, in 2020, Belgium was the main destination for Peruvian fish oil, while the European top four consisted of Belgium, Norway, Denmark, and the Netherlands.
Furthermore, regarding direct human consumption, the outlook in 2021 is also favourable (+15.3%), which is mainly driven by products from the frozen food line, such as giant squid, prawns (vannamei), mahi-mahi (dorado), and scallops.
With regards to canned products, in 2020, the main market of Peruvian canned tuna was the Netherlands (+181%), while Belgium was the fifth market of canned anchovies (+22,3%). In the frozen food line, the Netherlands was the third destination for flying fish roe, while the fourth export market of Peruvian trout was the Netherlands and its fifth Norway. Giant squid found its way to the Netherlands as its fifth destination, while scallops were mainly shipped to Belgium. The exports of scallops to Belgium have seen an important increase in the first few months of 2021 (+833,6%), becoming the fifth destination of exports.
This goes to show that the Benelux and Scandinavia are already important destinations for the exports of Peruvian fish and seafood products, but that there is room for growth.
Therefore, you can now participate in the Virtual B2B Matchmaking ‘Seafood from Peru’ from 18 to 27 May 2021, and explore the exportable supply of the high-quality Peruvian products, such as South Pacific hake, giant squid, prawns (vannamei), tuna, mackerel, anchovy, scallops, and much more.
Following international fishing standards, Peru’s seafood products come in different proportions and presentations that are ready to be shipped to your country. Furthermore, Brexit can have an impact on the seafood supply to the EU, which could be an opportunity for your company to explore new suppliers.
You can register before May 17th by sending an email to PROMPERU Benelux & Scandinavia at info@promperu.eu
