Statement: Situation in Peru
In response to information requests regarding the recent dengue outbreak in Peru, we communicate that the situation and visits to the country are proceeding normally. Tourist attractions and protected natural areas are regularly receiving travelers.
It should be noted that the Ministry of Health (MINSA) has declared a health emergency in 20 regions for the next 120 days, starting on May 25th, while carrying out fumigation and prevention actions that will allow the eradication of the root cause of this disease.
It is essential to mention that the tourist corridors in the regions of Apurímac, Ayacucho, Huancavelica, Ica, Junín, La Libertad, Lima, Moquegua, Pasco, Puno, and Tumbes continue to operate normally.
Regarding the Cusco region, dengue cases have been reported only in some districts of La Convención. In Loreto, cases have been detected in all districts, but the main attractions in the city of Iquitos have not been affected.
If you are visiting any of the mentioned regions, MINSA recommends wearing lightweight clothing that covers the arms and legs, protecting exposed skin with insect repellent and reapplying it every four hours, and ensuring that windows in your accommodation have mosquito nets.
Additionally, tourists can obtain information before their trip through the IPERÚ WhatsApp service at +51 944492314 (text only). IPERÚ, a free service provided by the government, offers official and up-to-date information about the country to tourists.
