Chilcano Week
JANUARY
The Chilcano cocktail is celebrated each January with a week-long festival known as ‘Chilcano Week’. The ‘Chilcano’ was created in the 1880’s by Italians that migrated to Peru. This cocktail was named after the ‘Chilcano soup’ – a Peruvian delicacy, fish-head soup that was believed to revive one after a long night of partying and enjoying pisco.
Pisco Sour Day
1ST SATURDAY OF FEBRUARY
The birth of this cocktail dates back to the 20s. As legend has it, an American bartender named Victor Morris moved to Lima to open a bar. After experimenting with various Pisco cocktails, one of his bartenders came upon its current iteration: the Pisco Sour. The drink was created and Morris’ bar was filled with Peruvians and travelers all wanting to get a taste of this new cocktail. Its fame grew in such a way that, for more than fifteen years, every first Saturday in February, Pisco sour Day has been celebrated.
National Pisco Day
4TH SUNDAY OF JULY
Since 1999, Pisco, Peru’s national drink and the pride and joy of every Peruvian, has its very own day of celebrations. The original Peruvian Pisco is made from grapes grown only in the regions of Lima, Ica, Arequipa, Moquegua or Tacna.
